Södra Råda timmerkyrka, a place steeped in history and tradition, suffered a tragic fire in 2001 that destroyed a priceless cultural heritage. However, this loss has given us the opportunity to rebuild the church using medieval methods and create something new, beautiful and meaningful.

Find Södra Råda timmerkyrka
Welcome to Södra Råda timmerkyrka in Gullspång municipality, where the Gullspång River with its salmon ladder forms the border between the counties of Västergötaland and Värmland.
The winding roads to Södra Råda are the foundations of a medieval route through the beautiful cultural landscape. Over the years, pilgrims on their way to Nidaros and travellers who wanted to avoid the dangerous Tived forests have walked these roads. In addition, there was perhaps (själastuga) soul shelter adjacent to Södra Råda old church, where hikers could get food and overnight accommodation?
