Season opening 2025 - Welcome to Södra Råda timmerkyrka!
From June 6, we offer guided tours every weekend (Saturday & Sunday) at 10-17.
Winter: The log church is closed, but you are always welcome to explore the site and our outdoor exhibition with informative signs.
Guided tours
Experience the unique history of Södra Råda old church site through a guided tour! Our knowledgeable guides will tell you about the beautiful paintings, archaeological finds and how the log church was built.
- Time: Approximately 45 minutes
- Price: 80 kr per person (children under 15 years free)
- Group booking: For larger groups - by prior arrangement. Inquiries are made by phone, email or on our contact form.
Parking space
- Large car park at the log church, also for tourist buses.
- A pedestrian bridge leads from the car park to the church square, so you don't have to walk along the road. The bridge is easy to walk on and has no stairs.
- Disabled parking is available at the guide center.
Payment
We accept cash and Swish. Larger groups can also pay by invoice.
Accessibility & service
- The site has a gravel base with some unevenness.
- Toilet is available on site and is adapted for all visitors (Open during the summer season).
- Dogs are welcome in the church grounds but must wait outside the church.

Södra Råda timmerkyrka is scenically located on the border between Värmland and Västra Götaland counties, surrounded by forests and meadows, with Gullspång as the nearest town. The easiest way to get here is by car.
Getting here by public transport
The area is accessible by public transport, but options are limited.
There are several bus connections to Gullspång, which is the closest stop to Södra Råda timmerkyrka:
- From Kristinehamn: Kristinehamn has good train connections with both Stockholm and Oslo via SJ. From Kristinehamn's travel center take Västtrafik's line 521 or Värmlandstrafik's bus 505 to Gullspång.
- From Hova: From Hova torg. Use line 520 that runs between Hova and Gullspång.
- From Mariestad: From Mariestad travel center. Travel with line 502 to Gullspång.
From Gullspång bus station it is about 7 km to the church. You can get further on foot or by bike.
